KCIC always looks forward to the ABA Section of Litigation – Insurance Coverage Litigation Committee CLE Seminar. The excellent sessions and many familiar faces are always the main draw. It will be especially good to be in Tucson, Arizona, after the long winter we’ve had on the East Coast.
This year there is added anticipation because KCIC is a proud sponsor of the conference for the first time. We are so pleased to support this important annual meeting for those who litigate in the area of insurance coverage, as well as for in-house counsel for insurance companies and policyholders.
Be sure to stop by the KCIC table in the exhibit area. Also, among the many sessions offered during the conference, two will feature members of the KCIC team:
Where the Math Meets the Law: Valuing State Law on Allocation and Related Issues
During this breakout session on Thursday, March 3, Elizabeth Hanke, KCIC Vice President, will serve on a panel addressing the intricacies in turning an allocation ruling into a usable financial model in complex insurance claims. Discussion will include balancing the “spirit of the law” with the practical realities when doing the math and negotiating settlements. Elizabeth’s fellow panelists will be Kami E. Quinn, of Gilbert LLP, and Stephanie Sciullo, In-House Counsel for MSA The Safety Company.
The Proof is in the Pudding: When Primary Coverage is Exhausted
On Friday, March 4, Carrie Scott, KCIC Vice President, will lead a roundtable discussion with David Cox of Morgan Lewis and Bockius LLP, on methods to prove primary coverage is exhausted where losses/claims payments have taken place over many years. Included will be discussion of admissibility of loss runs, claims data and allocation scenarios when settlement agreements were utilized, electronic trial presentation, and cooperation between primary carriers and policyholders.
You can view the entire conference schedule here.
We very much hope to see you March 2-5 in Tucson.
