I will be co-chairing Perrin’s Sexual Abuse Litigation and Coverage Conference on October 12, 2022, in New York. KCIC will also be a sponsor.
I am proud to start the day sharing opening remarks along with fellow co-chairs Tracey McDevitt Hagan, Reilly, McDevitt & Henrich, P.C. and Brian Kent, Laffey Bucci Kent. Later in the day, I will present on the panel “Whose Coverage is it Anyway?” I will be joined by Kristen Drake, PolicyFind; Tracy Alan Saxe, Saxe Doernberger & Vita; and Dan M. Schiavetta, Jr., Russo & Gould LLP.
My KCIC colleagues and I have attended and spoken at several conferences that focus on sexual abuse claims and insurance coverage. KCIC is at the forefront of working with organizations that face these claims—which take a horrific human toll and also raise a host of liability management and insurance issues.
Many defendants have historic insurance policies that could be used to fund settlements. But when the abuse dates back many years, even decades, the relevant insurance coverage documentation is not always readily available. Over the years it may have been misplaced or become disorganized. Deploying technology, KCIC takes on the tremendous task of recovering and organizing lost insurance policies, some dating back 50-plus years as well as organizing the claims data in a useful and meaningful way. Once claims data is well organized, it can be utilized for future cost estimation and coverage valuation.
Financial compensation can never right the wrong, but it can be an important part of the healing process for survivors. I continue to be proud of KCIC for the impactful work we do to help with the compensation process for sexual abuse victims—giving clients the tools they need to analyze claims of abuse and secure compensation for survivors from insurance, where it exists.
We applaud Perrin Conferences for continuing to tackle this sensitive, but important topic. These are conversations we must have.
The full conference agenda can be found here. I hope to see you next month.
